I welcome any story suggestions for future writing. Excerpt from "The Tale of the Haunted Axe" It was just after midnight when he heard it. The wind had started up, rustling the trees outside and banging the boat against the dock. Then CHOP, CHOP - there it was! That was the noise that woke him. It paused and then CHOP, CHOP again. His dad was snoring. Jimmy thought that his dad would sleep through anything, even if the roof fell down. Jimmy jumped out of bed and looked out the window. He blinked and listened, bewildered as to why he would hear someone chopping with an axe in the middle of the night. The wind gusted and suddenly CRACK, SWOOSH, and KABANG. A tree fell down and smashed his dad's car right before his eyes. "DAD!" yelled Jimmy as two hands grabbed his shoulders.

Autorenporträt
Ben Helmond has ventured out on his own as a self-published author. Within this book, you will find his expanded and refined campfire stories that he originally told his children. Finding himself at that point in his life, where he's starting to get referred to as a senior, he delved into writing his stories in preparation for sharing them with future grandchildren. The results were so loved by everyone that the decision to publish them in a book evolved. Ben grew up in the area where the stories are written. He skated on lakes covered with black ice, played minor hockey in many old barn-style arenas and wanted to stay young forever. Attempting to achieve this quest, Ben tries to never let his imagination grow old.
