Using qualitative data gathered from the students at the University of Guelph, it is argued that not only sensible use of marijuana has become 'normalized', but also this normalization is the result of the fluid way in which youths form their identity in the post-modern world.

Amir Mostaghim is a PhD. candidate at the University of Guelph. His research interest is in the area of youth identity and leisure. He is currently working towards a project that focuses on culture and gender experiences during leisure with specific attention to the normalization thesis.
