In the automotive field, there are now more than 100 sensors, 30 to 80 computers depending on the type of vehicle and sometimes more than a million lines of code in a latest generation vehicle. The difficulties of exchanging information between these elements have motivated the creation of a communication system called CAN (Control Area Network) bus system. This book provides a detailed study of the properties of this network, explains the requirements for the presence of the CAN network as well as the advantages of a differential mode measurement. Then, it details the properties of the network by specifying the ways of information exchange, data coding and equipment by a study of CAN frame. Moreover, it presents some embedded electronic circuits allowing to install the CAN Bus network.A method of study of a CAN body network of low transmission speed and another CAN motor network of high transmission speed is also presented by this work.At the end of the book a set of corrected exercises help to evaluate and enrich the acquired skills are made available to the reader.
