The book deals with the theme of Paid Domestic Labour in Brazil, especially in the city that served as the field of research: Marília, in the interior of São Paulo. In recent decades, from the 2000s onwards, the profession, which still lacked important regulations, has become more prominent as an object of research in the Social Sciences. Its importance is due to Brazil's historical traits, which directly or indirectly reflect on its current working conditions. This is an attempt to bring to light problems related to the profession, which has spent so long in obscurity in the face of Brazilian legislation governing labour relations in Brazil.
