Autorenporträt
Samuel Sharpe (1799-1881), Egyptologist and Biblical translator, was a banker for most of his life. Upon retirement, he devoted himself, without university training, to Biblical studies. To Biblical literature he contributed 'The Hebrew Scriptures', a revision of the authorized English translation (1881); and 'History of the Hebrew Nation and Literature' (1869).
