He was the son of Alice Annie Campbell Stuart-Menteth and Henry Doveton Hutchinson. Hutchinson's works often explore human relationships, social constraints, and personal identity. Raised in a family with a strong literary presence, he was influenced by his upbringing to pursue a career in writing. His novels, including This Freedom, examine societal structures and the complexities of gender roles, offering deep insights into the challenges of early 20th-century life. Hutchinson's writing reflects a critical view of the social norms of his time, often focusing on how individuals navigate societal expectations and personal desires. He had a sibling, Vere Stuart-Menteth Hutchinson, and spent much of his later life in the United Kingdom. Hutchinson passed away on March 14, 1971, in Uckfield, at the age of 91.
