Skeletal open bite malocclusion has long held great fascination in orthodontics. It is difficult to treat and relapse tendencies are strong. Successful stable results can be achieved when treated during the growth period. In non growing patients the opportunity for growth modification is lost, leaving surgical correction as the only possible treatment. This book discusses two innovative approaches by which excellent results can be achieved in difficult open bite cases during growing phase. Both approaches rely on use of modified bite blocks for control of vertical dimension. Active elements in the form of rare earth magnets and springs have been used to achieve effective molar intrusion and correction of open bite. Evaluation of treatment effects were done by EMG and cephalograms. Both the approaches provide exciting prospect for effective treatment of skeletal open bits malocclusion.
