This book provides a study on the dynamic performance of Al-Zafarana 5th phase wind farm, which consists of 100 Gamesa G52/850kW DFIGs, with the help of DIgSILENT/PowerFactory simulation tool. The thesis implements a dynamic model for 850 kW DFIG machine based WECS using Matlab/Simulink. Developed dual reference frame control strategy is employed by adopting voltage unbalance detector (VUD) to detect the presence of unbalanced grid voltage conditions and to mitigate their effects on DFIG behavior. The achieved results reveal the capability of the applied control scheme to control DFIG machine effectively during unbalanced grid conditions by restoring the DFIG machine to normal conditions. Single line to ground faults have been also applied on Al-Zafarana wind farm model using DIgSILENT, to demonstrate the performance of the entire wind farm during different grid conditions.
