Spirometry is the accepted technique for the diagnosis and monitoring of pulmonary disorders. However, the equipment used to perform this test, the spirometers, are mainly based on expensive electronic sensors. On the other hand, optical fiber-based sensors provide an appealing alternative to electronic sensors. To incorporate their advantages into spirometry, two solutions were produced based on different optical fiber technology, fiber Bragg gratings and Fabry-Perot interferometers. The design and implementation of such solutions are described in detail in this book, along with the necessary theory to understand the underlying principles.…mehr
