A power system is said to be well designed if it gives a good quality of reliable supply. In the present scenario, transmission systems are becoming increasingly stressed, more difficult to operate and more insecure with unscheduled power flows and higher losses because of growing demand and tight restrictions on the construction of new lines. A power system is said to be well designed if it gives a good quality of reliable supply. In the present scenario, transmission systems are becoming increasingly stressed, more difficult to operate and more insecure with unscheduled power flows and higher losses because of growing demand and tight restrictions on the construction of new lines. The goal of the book is to apply conventional and evolutionary algorithms i.e Interior point method, Genetic Algorithm, Particle Swarm Optimization, BA Algorithm and Shuffled BA algorithm for branch loading, voltage stability margin improvement and minimization of active power loss. This is accomplished by incorporating single type or multi type FACTS devices. Static Var Compensator (Variable Susceptance Model) and Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (Variable Reactance Model) are the devices used for branch loading, voltage stability limit improvement and real power loss minimization.
