Spot weld quality is mainly depend upon the parameter and there levels, Like welding current, electrode force and welding time etc. So selection of optimal parameter level plays an very important role in strength of weld. Therefore optimization of weld tensile strength can be done by using Taguchi method and ANOVA technique. In this study, the use of the Taguchi method to determine the welding process parameters and levels for optimal tensile shear strength and nugget diameter is reported. The Taguchi method is a systematic application of design and analysis of experiments for the purpose of designing and improving product quality at the design stage. Taguchi based L9 and L27 orthogonal array is selected for experimentation. The experimentation is carried out on CRCA (Cold Rolled Close Annealed), Stainless Steel 304 and Galvanized Iron. The setting of welding parameter was determined by using the Taguchi experimental design method. The level of importance of the welding parameters on the tensile shear strength and nugget diameter is determined by using analysis of variance (ANOVA) in Minitab software.
