This book presents a review of development of energy storage devices for train and the most convenient way to use energy storage technologies.Special attention is given to battery as storage technology to store the power as an on-board system. The on-board application is covering the power for non-electrified routs or in situations where there is gap between over-head lines which will be expensive to be electrified. This method is helpful to analyse the possibility of using battery for traction system. If a battery can be made as an IPEMU and operate reliably, then it can lead to a significant reduction in cost and emission.
