Oral diseases not only affect the teeth and oral cavity but can also influence the well-being, self-esteem and overall quality of life of the individuals. Oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) is a relatively new but rapidly growing notion. The concept of OHRQoL is particularly significant tool to understand and shape not only the state of clinical practice of dentistry, dental research, and dental education, but also that of the community at large. OHRQoL has an obvious role in clinical dentistry which translates into the clinicians' recognition that they do not treat teeth and gums, but human beings.
