Since the first reports of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections in 1981, extensive information has accumulated about all aspects of the virus, its transmission, the pathogenesis of the disease, its epidemiology, and the social factors affecting infected individuals,its systemic and oral manifestations as well along with the dental considerations. The rapid acquisition of knowledge has promoted and expansion of the traditional role of health care workers.
