"Hormone" is a greek word meaning "to set in motion". Hormones are released from cells that circulate and affect distant organs.Endocrine hormones are released by glands into the circulating blood. They influence the function of cells at another location. The endocrine system, like the nervous system, adjusts and correlates the activities of the various body systems, making them appropriate to the changing demands of the environment. The main oral manifestations of endocrine disorders are dry mouth, burning mouth syndrome, increased reactivity to local irritation of bacterial plaque, acute gingival inflammation, periodontal abscess, delayed healing. Awareness is therefore necessary of the risks and difficulties that may arise during the dental management of patients with endocrine disorders and the most common oral manifestations.
