Georgia Pennington Sligar is a devoted history buff . She was born and raised in West Virginia. Having married a Marine, she has traveled extensively throughout the United States while her husband was in the United States Marine Corps. At each duty station, Mrs. Sligar delved into the history of the area. Her husband was a Sargent when they married, and he achieved the rank of Major upon retirement.Some of the places Mrs. Sligar dug into the history of areas such as Wheeling, West Virginia; Lancaster, Pennsylvania.; Cherry Point, North Carolina; Virginia Beach, Virginia; Honolulu, Hawaii; Quantico, Virginia; and Portland, Oregon.While living in Hawaii, Mrs. Sligar attended Kapiolaine Community College, received her Practical Nursing degree, and became an LPN.When her husband retired from the Marine Corps, the family moved to Portland, Oregon, for Major Sligar to attend Portland Bible College. Living now in Oregon, Mrs. Sligar began looking into the history of Oregon and the Pacifi c Northwest. ere is so much history and so many places to see. Major Sligar helped her roam the state for nine years, investigating and collecting data and memorabilia.Mrs. Sligar taught Oregon history to 7th and 8th graders while doing extensive research for this workbook. Before the death of her husband, Georgia Sligar was part of the ministry team of City Bible Church (formerly Bible Temple), now Mannahouse in Portland, Oregon. She was also on staff at City Christian School (formerly Bible Temple Christian School), now Mannahouse Christian Academy, for 17 years. After the death of her husband, Georgia retired and is now living in Vancouver, Washington. Georgia Sligar has three sons, 13 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
