Morinda tinctoria Roxb. (Family: Rubiaceae) is commonly known as Indian mulberry or Aal in India. This plant is very well known for its therapeutic benefit in Indian systems of medicine including Ayurveda and Siddha and in other forms of traditional Medicine worldwide for the treatment of several ailments. Almost all parts of this plant have been explored for its medicinal uses. Morinda tinctoria is extensively cultivated in India in order to make the morindone dye sold under the trade name Suranji . Morindone is used for the dyeing of cotton, silk and wool in shades of red, chocolate or purple. Morinda tinctoria possess good antioxidant activity. Antioxidants are radical scavengers, which protect the human body against free radicals that may cause pathological conditions such as anaemia, asthuma, arthritis, inflammation,neurodegeneration and Parkinson's disease. The Zebra fish is a good model for examining antioxidative mechanism. The main focus of Zebra fish research has traditionally been on developmental biology keeping and observing Zebra fish in the lab to the identification of diseases similar to human.
