Among the institutions that contribute to the development of education in Ethiopia, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC) has significant place. At early stages, the Church had its aims on education merely to produce manpower to spiritual services. Even though the role of the Church was mainly in providing religious education, but later on it stated giving secular subjects in addition to theological subjects. This could be a measure taken by the Church to make priests, deacons, etc. better educated and to provide better service to the people. Church schools also served the state in that they provide a pool of educated men who may be recruited for the service as judges, government scribes, etc. Currently, the EOTC is expanding different services. This includes schools, colleges and clinics, renting houses to generate income. With the Church's increasing activity, it is obvious that there is a need for efficient organization and trained personnel. Particularly, the schools need competent leaders and efficient managers so that the desired educational service could be provided.
