Orhan Veli was born in Istanbul, in 1914 He studied philosophy, worked for the Turkish Post Office and as a literary translator. A founder of the Garip strange movement, he is one of Turkeys most popular poets. His poems are innovative, appealing freely to the senses, heart and mind. He died following an accident, at the early age of 36 He is buried in Istanbul, in the Asiyan cemetery, on the shores of the Bosphorus.
