George Orwell was born in Bengal in 1903. He attended private schools in England, served in the Burmese Imperial Police, worked as a teacher and bookseller's assistant, fought on the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War and worked as a freelance writer and journalist. His novels "1984" and "Animal Farm" made him world-famous.
