This piece tries to analyze some classic theories of shame. It intends to show that Jean-Paul Sartre's own theory best explains why a certain group in Africa still feel shame against the backdrop that they ought not to feel shame where shame is seen as an emotion based of one's responsibility for an action. These Africans are not expexted to feel shame when others view them as Osu(out casts) because they share no responsibility in the events that made others classify them as Osu.
