David Lodge, geb. 1935 in London, war lange Jahre Professor für Moderne Englische Literatur an der Universität Birmingham und unterrichtete als Gastprofessor auch ein Jahr (1969) an der renommierten amerikanischen University of California in Berkeley. Er hat mit großem Erfolg eine Reihe von Büchern veröffentlicht. Heute lebt er als freier Schriftsteller mit seiner Familie in Birmingham.
