In 1989, he began illustrating castle restorations, later expanding to historical illustrations for magazines and textbooks. Inspired by his child's love for mazes, he published Maze of Time in 2005. Since then, 18 titles in the "Maze Picture Book Series" (PHP Institute) have sold over 3 million copies. Since 2017, he has co-authored with his daughter, Shiori Kagawa.
