Hugo Houayek poetically addresses in Painting as a Border Act the possibilities, potencies and power of contemporary painting. Understanding painting as a frontier act, the book discusses how the pictorial field is a continuous and permanent negotiation with the world in order to be defined. Consequently, in order to expand its territory, painting needs to confront the world, and in this confrontation, perceived as a fall, painting is diluted in the world.
