Painting of the Virgin Mary is one of the most important subjects in Christian Eastern and Western art. This topic is easy to present in each art individually. However, this book deals with this theme in several Eastern and Western arts such as Coptic, Ethiopian, Cappadocian, Syrian, Lebanese, Greek, Bulgarian, Yugoslavian, Russian, Italian, French, Flemish, German and Spanish arts. Also, this book will highlight the artistic value of both kinds of art Eastern and Western through the form and position of painted figures, colours and garments. The book composed of eight chapters; the first and the second parts are considered as an introduction. In the first chapter, many geographical, historical, political and religious sides have been presented with their effect on artistic aspects. In the second chapter, the stages of development in iconography have been presented as far as form and content are concerned. The third and forth chapters contain the icon and painting of Virgin Mary "Theotokos". The fifth and the sixth chapters presented part of Virgin Mary life in both of Eastern and Western art. The latest two chapters present the subjects which related to the birth of Jesus Christ.
