The text on the Guyana Shield is mainly based on material generated by Maria Telma Lins Faraco, geologist of the Brazilian Geological Survey, for her Masters Dissertation and Doctorate Thesis. The author acted as her orienteer during these studies. This book gives an opportunity to divulge some of this material in English. A successful attempt at dating the rocks using the samarium-neodymium parent-daughter isotopic system applied to whole rock samples of amphibolite, practically the only feasible option then available, provided an age which has been used as a reference for the maximum age of the Paleoproterozoic meta-volcanic rocks. The texts on the West African Craton and the super-continent Columbia (Nuna) are a result of a extensive literature research undertaken by the author.
