Shailesh V. Shrikhande is the Deputy Director of Tata Memorial Hospital, Head of Division of Cancer Surgery, and Chief of GI and HPB (Gastro Intestinal Hepato Pancreato Biliary) surgical service. He is Chairman of the Indian Council Medical Research (ICMR) committee for developing guidelines for management of Pancreatic and Gastric Cancer in India, and President of the Indian Chapter of IHPBA. He is also the President Elect of the Asia Pacific Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (A-PHPBA). In recognition of his work on pancreatic cancer and digestive cancer surgery in India, Professor Shrikhande was awarded Honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2014 (FRCS-Ad Eundem). He was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of American Surgical Association (ASA) in Seattle in April 2021. He is the first HPB specialist and only the second Indian surgeon to receive this honour in last 140 years. He has edited nine books and authored over 75 book chapters and 285 journal articles. Markus W. Büchler is the Executive Director and Professor of Surgery at Heidelberg University Hospital. After studying medicine in Heidelberg and Berlin he started surgical training at the University of Ulm. In 1993 he became Professor of Surgery and Clinical Director at Bern University, Switzerland. In 2001 he returned to Germany to lead the surgical department in Heidelberg. Today he additionally heads the surgical departments of four general hospitals in the Heidelberg region. He is an internationally respected expert in the field of surgery, especially of pancreatic surgery. More than 2900 scientific manuscripts published by him focus on the molecular basis of GI cancer and pancreatic diseases as well as clinical surgical problems. Professor Büchler is an honorary member of several national and international societies. He is on the editorial boards of many scientific journals and has received multiple awards.
