This book depicts sleep quality, excessive daytime sleepiness and psychological distress among first year medical students of tertiary government medical college of western Maharashtra. Sleep is an essential component of physical and mental health, Insufficient sleep impacts on alertness and leads to attention decline. It may be due to a sudden transition from school life to professional life, vast syllabus, exam stress and excessive use of social media.This book shows association of some demographic factors (age, sex, residence, hometown, religion) with sleep and psychological distress. Medical cultures that promote healthy diversity, responsibility, and accountability rather than competition and shaming are core to the solution of this issue encountered by medical students worldwide. So recommendations regarding promotion of healthy lifestyle, stress-free life and awareness about the negative impacts of sleep disturbances on academic performance can be given. Therefore, measures to improve sleep habits among medical students are highly recommended.
