"Papa" takes its title and subject from the biography of Ernest Hemingway, "Papa Hemingway." Bought off the street in the East Village, I quickly read this book and immediately began creating blackout poetry on the pages; shortly after that, I started drawing, first my visions of Hemingway, then Hemingway in sexual terms. What began as a meditation of Hemingway, the man, quickly turned into an exploration of the homosexual and homosocial appeal of the Hemingway/"Daddy Bear" archetype.
