The view of the author is not that emotions are bad and should never be expressed, but rather that the emotions are to be noticed, and expressed in a way that is not hurtful to oneself or others. Don't allow the emotion to rule - but rather learn to rule over it. Not by stuffing it down and pretending it doesn't exist, but by experiencing it fully, noting the experience and moving on. The activities within this book are designed to help one specifically accomplish this sometimes daughting task.
