James Iffland es catedratico en la Universidad de Boston, donde ha ensenado literatura espanola y latinoamericana desde 1974. Es una de autoridades a nivel mundial sobre Miguel de Cervantes, Francisco de Quevedo y la literatura del Siglo de Oro espanol, y merecedor de un reconocimiento del Rey Felipe IV por sus estudios cervantinos.
