Forschungsarbeit aus dem Jahr 2022 im Fachbereich Didaktik - Geschichte, Note: 12+1, Bahir Dar University (Bahir Dar university), Veranstaltung: History, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyze the paradigms, challenges, and prospects of history education in Ethiopia since the early 20th century. The reason why I chose the early 20th century is that it was the landmark for launching modern education in Ethiopia in general and history education in particular. To construct this paper from a historical point of view, I rigorously examined the scholarly research books, journals, articles, theses, and other significant historical materials from a historical point of view. Therefore, I attempted to clarify, the evolution of history education in Ethiopia, the paradigm shifts that history has undergone through the passage of time, and the major challenges and prospects of history education in Ethiopia in the past three regimes.

Autorenporträt
My name is Ageru Shume Nadew. I am the offspring of my father, Shume Nadew Shibesh, and my mother, Kassu Mesele Tegegne. I was born on November 16, 1980, in Metekel awuraja, among the former provinces of Gojjam, particularly in Mandura district, at a place called Dawuha Makisegnit. My parents were imigrants from Gayint who settled in the above location from 1958 to 1983 E.C. Things were not good in Dawuha and gradually shifted to Pawe in K2V2 due to the animosity in Mandura in 1984. When I turned eight, I joined K2V2 Primary School in 1988. From 1988 to 1995, E.C. and I completed primary school, and from 1996¿1997, I attended Grades 9 and 10 at K2V2 Secondary School. I continued my senior secondary schooling (preparatory level) at Pawe Senior Secondary School from 1998-1999, E.C. In 2000, I joined Debre Birhan University and received a Bachelor of Arts in history education. Two years later, meaning after I was teaching in Oromia and Benishangul-Gumuz national regional states, I joined the Gilgel Beles College of Teachers' Education (GBCTE) in 2005 E.C. to teach history education. After two years of service at the college, I began my MA studies at Jimma University in 2007¿2008 E.C. Since 2013, I've been assigned by the Ministry of Education to Bahir Dar University to pursue a doctorate in history education. As a result, I am currently pursuing a PhD, and I successfully defended my dissertation on January 20, 2023, and I have started to write the dissertation thesis. My research interests are the challenges of history education in Ethiopia, history textbooks, history syllabuses, state ideology and history education, history as a tool for nation building, and social cohesion.
