Thoracic paravertebral block provides effective analgesia for unilateral multiple fracture ribs. It can provide excellent intraoperative anaesthetic and postoperative analgesic conditions with less adverse effects and fewer contraindications then central neuraxial blockade. It can provide high quality analgesia which can be used to a great advantage for patients undergoing many types of surgery and also for those suffering from trauma, acute and chronic pain. It allows deep breathing, effective cough and compliance with chest physiotherapy. Multiple approaches have been described. Ultrasound guidance has the potential to improve the efficacy and reduce complications by real time visualization of the paravertebral space and surrounding structures. The objective of the study was to evaluate the success rate and feasibility of the ultrasound guided out of plane approach using probe in sagittal position to relieve pain in patients of unilateral fracture ribs.
