The authors list relevant points on parental alienation, recent studies guiding interventions and the growing debate on the topic at national and international level. The law guiding the behaviour of professionals involved in child custody disputes and its updating, with the aim of benefiting the child or adolescent in this situation. An important point presented in the literature review refers to Parental Alienation Syndrome, which can affect these people when parents are in the process of separation, especially when it is contentious. In this context, we work with a multidisciplinary team, and one of the professionals who can act in these cases is the psychologist, who can carry out assessments, diagnoses, issue reports and opinions, as well as analyse the emotional state, the personality structure and the configuration of family relationships, in order to offer suggestions and support judicial decisions.
