The work is foremost a missive to the author's grandson. Begun soon after we entered shut down, well before any vaccines were tangible, it was written with a vague sense/fear that this might become the only vehicle whereby his grandson might know the author or his forefathers. It is a work of non-fiction that intertwines the above dimension of a legacy with an attempt to grapple with the realities of the last four years of having Donald Trump be our 45th president: to confront that nadir, both in terms of him personally, but also regarding what we must ultimately acknowledge we learn about ourselves - individually, morally and collectively. It is an interdisciplinary work on ethics, philosophy and current affairs, a memoir strongly tinged by the hard sciences, and intended for the next generation. These are its parochialisms.
