Cooperatives as social and economic organizations have developed for more than 200 years around the world. Cooperatives provide secure livelihoods for 3 billion people, provide work opportunities for more than 100 million people, cover 25% of the world market in insurance and supply 33% of the world's dairy products. The people of Ethiopia have got a very long social history of working together to fulfill their socio-economic needs.Rural cooperatives are important rural social organizations supporting livelihood development and poverty reduction. However, there is lack of a wider and systematic analysis to produce sufficient empirical evidence on the participation towards rural cooperatives. This work identifies factors affecting participation of villagers in rural cooperative of Arsi Negele Woreda. According to the results, it is better for Arsi Negele Woreda cooperative office to work in creating awareness among the villagers about the benefits of participating and not participating in rural cooperatives. Cooperatives have to be good examples of the benefit villagers earn in improving their lives.
