Konrad Kleinknecht, geboren 1940 in Ravensburg, studierte in München und Heidelberg Physik und Mathematik. Er lehrte und forschte an den Universitäten Heidelberg und Dortmund, am California Institute of Technology, der Harvard University und am CERN in Genf. Seit 1985 ist er Professor für Physik an der Universität Mainz. Für seine Arbeiten erhielt er zahlreiche Preise, u.a. den Leibniz-Preis der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft. Konrad Kleinknecht ist Klimabeauftragter der Deutschen Physikalischen Gesellschaft. Er erhielt 2007 die Stern-Gerlach-Medaille 2008, eine Auszeichnung der Deutschen Physikalischen Gesellschaft (DPG) im Bereich der experimentellen Physik.
