After publishing the "Pastoral Letters from the Bishop of the Wehrmacht" of Bishop Franz Justis Rarkowski, Catholic Field Bishop of the Wehrmacht from the beginning of the Polish Campaign until the end of the War, a few further pastoral letters from prior to the war came to your editor's attention. Thus this small book is an accompaniment and preface to Pastoral Letters from the Bishop of the Wehrmacht. Fr. Franz Rarkowski was consecrated acting Army bishop in August 1936, and then officially consecrated on February 29, 1938 as episcopus castrensis, and Titular Bishop of Hierocaesarea by Pope Pius XII. The Field Bishop served until 1945. The letters and their advice of the Field Bishop are excellent, thoroughly Catholic, and worthy of implementing in one's own every day life. They remind us of the manly and sacrificial Catholicism of our heritage, and calls us once again to the Faith of our Fathers in peace and in that warfare to which every Christian is called.
