I should probably take a moment to explain what is going on. It really is a lot more complicated than what most people think it is. Let's be honest - the books that are out there just don't get it right. It doesn't matter what planet or universe that you come from; ephemerals seem to think that we are all just resting on clouds playing our harps. There is a constant praise session going on and we are doing damned little else. Not even close to true! There is real work to be done, and it won't happen with just the wave of a hand or the snap of a finger. Besides, they took my harp away. No one liked the music I was playing. Talk about music critics! At the end of our first tour, we were given the opportunity to reenlist or be honorably discharged. All of us renewed our enlistment save for The Seven. The Seven are on 'permanent deployment,' if you take my meaning. We toast them every time we get together, as well as any others who have joined them. There were a dozen of us who decided to go career. This meant that we were not going home until this war was won or we joined The Seven. Kathleen Malone and I met on my third tour when she was a still wet-behind-the-ears rookie. Until then, it was unheard of for different branches to be assigned together. However, the General Staff knew what they were doing. Let me be upfront and say that it was my own damned fault. I was showing off to impress Kathleen. I know, it is never a good idea to take risks so I could swagger a little. That's how I got into a serious jam. Kathleen just sauntered in and saved my bacon but good. We've been together ever since - both on and off the battlefield. We wouldn't have it any other way. Our forces have beaten back The Enemy on just about every battlefront. All that is really left is this speck of dust, and The Enemy and its forces want it pretty fierce. We're here to take it away from them, kick them off, and hold on to it.
