Diabetic retinopathy (DR), a disease of the retina, is the most common and specific microvascular complication of diabetes. It is the major cause of blindness among people in working age and is a leading cause of visual impairment in older patients in developed countries, representing a major socioeconomic problem. The present book describes the pathobiology of diabetes, diabetic retinopathy, and utilization of plant derived components as adjunct to present treatments.

Dr Ehtishamul Haq completed his masters in Biochemistry from Univ. of Kashmir, earning a gold medal. Pursued his Ph.D. at PGIMER, Chandigarh, India from Jan 1996 to Jul 2000. From Dec 2000-Sep 2005 he did postdoctoral fellowship at Medical Univ. of South Carolina, USA. In Sep 2005, he joined as Asst. Prof. at Deptt of Biotechnology Univ. of Kashmir
