The main purpose of this work is to inform dentists, specialists and physicians about the etiology, stages of odontogenic infection and factors that predispose patients to develop a deep neck abscess, as well as the correct diagnosis and procedure.Oral and maxillofacial infections represent a unique problem due to the abundance and variety of organisms present in this region as well as the microbial and resistant nature observed in recent years. There are now distinct criteria that indicate the need for immediate referral to a hospital emergency department because it poses an imminent threat to the patient's life and airway. It is known that deep neck abscess infection can lead to and predispose to more serious secondary clinical conditions such as airway compromise, mediastinitis, sepsis, systemic inflammatory response syndrome and even necrotizing fasciitis. The correct control of the patient's associated comorbidities can be a reason for a favorable prognosis in patients who develop deep neck abscess.
