This book has been written to reflect on the study findings on patients' perceptions regarding nursing care in a surgical ward or unit. It was noted that patients base their perceptions upon the type of communication nurses made and what nurses were doing to them while they were receiving care. Patients' perceptions were influenced by how nurses were conducting themselves towards patients. The need to improve nurses' interpersonal skills and relationships and behavior towards patients was recommended.

Elwin Shawa, senior lecturer in medical-surgical nursing in the faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing and Midwifery. I am a holder of a BSc in Nursing obtained from the University of Malawi, and an MSc. in Nursing majoring Medical-Surgical Nursing from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.
