The paper explores the problem of patriotic education of students at the present stage of internationalization of higher education. The author identifies the dominant values of the main historical stages in the development of the idea of patriotic education, which reflect national and multicultural aspects in the understanding of true patriotism. This allows to substantiate a number of theoretical provisions on the relationship between patriotic and multicultural upbringing of young people.
