Antibiotic resistance has been reached to an alarming level globally, especially in developing countries. There are multiple reasons behind this increase in resistance, but research has shown that single as well as multiple antibiotics use & self medication are the main contributing factors. Antibiotics are prescription only medicines in Pakistan, but this law is not observed strictly consequently self medication of antibiotics is common practice in Pakistan. The main purpose of this study was to collect descriptive data on the proportion of the antibiotics dispensed through prescriptions, Patient's requests, on Pharmacist recommendations & also to check the prescribing pattern of antibiotics, in order to give foundations to conduct Interventional studies in the future and also to bring ground realities in front of policy makers to eventually improve antibiotics prescribing and dispensing practices.
