Paul Radford is a war hero. Yet the war has cost him all he holds dear. Not caring if he lives or dies, he volunteers for the Alaska Scouts. There he racks up an incredible record defending Dutch Harbor and scouting the invasion of Attu. To his surprise, he survives. Now the Navy wants to send him to Peru. The communists are making inroads in South America and the US wants to keep an eye on them. Paul is the perfect man for the job. Fluent in both Spanish and Quecha he knows the Andes better than most native guides. He also knows Victor Haya, the influential socialist he is sent to watch. The problem is that Paul is wanted by the police in Peru. Before the war, he discovered two illegal German bases the Peruvians were not aware existed. Working with the police, he helped destroy both bases. This embarrassed powerful Germans in the government. Now these Nazi sympathizers want him dead. Knowing he could be shot as a spy if caught, Paul infiltrates the Andes. He quickly gets in touch with Haya and joins his entourage. When he does, Paul becomes a target of hard core communists. He also becomes a target of an assassin hired by the FBI. Yet the Andes are Paul's turf and the native people, his friends, and he proves very hard to kill.
