Peace at Daggers Drawn is the story of the diplomatic initiatives (both official and unofficial, public and secret) intended to end or stop the spread of World War II. Special attention is devoted to specific peace proposals, initiatives, and back-channel attempts, all within the context of the foreign policies of the principal nations concerned. Efforts designed to end hostilities by belligerent and non-belligerent nations are included. This work is confined to the European theater of operations and covers the earliest stages of the conflict: September 1, 1939, to September 17, 1940.
