It is paradoxical that, being the university the institution that for centuries has been the guarantor of the construction of knowledge and the progress of society, today it seems to be lagging behind in time and limited in its possibilities to respond to the social and cultural demands that emerge precisely from the knowledge society. In Latin America this problem is more critical, given that, in these developing countries, universities lack a research culture that sustains the creation of knowledge and the development of society. In this difficult context, universities, meaning the educational model, are faced with the immense challenge of their own transformation. It is a matter of training competent professionals to live in a basically changing world, capable of developing their potential for lifelong learning, that is, learning to learn and to undertake throughout life. All this implies overcoming the old paradigm of traditional teaching and opening up to the changes and educational models that emerge from the pedagogical integration of information and communication technologies in activities.
