The provision of dental services to children with special health care needs historically has been given limited attention by the dental profession. Of all the specialties in dentistry, pediatric dentistry is the one that includes in its definition the care of patients with special health care needs. Providing care to children with disabilities is a cornerstone of pediatric dentistry. This patient population has historically experienced barriers to care that have resulted in inequality and poor oral health outcomes. The objective of this book is to better equip clinicians to address the needs of this special population and reduce overall care disparities. Thorough knowledge of different disabilities and medical conditions is essential for a pediatric dentist or any medical practitioner for successful management of children with special healthcare needs.
