Being one of the first punk acts in the country, they also played a major role in opening doors for many bands that came after. Pekin ka patka's roots are found in another band called Trafo. That short-lived group, formed in 1976, featuring Neboj a onki on vocals and Sreten Kova evi on guitar, performed cover versions of rock standards by the Rolling Stones and Santana. The following year Kova evi formed a pop band Café Express that featured onki as guest vocalist.
