Sustainable development means that the current generation ought to use resources as efficiently as to secure the ability of future generations to meet their resource needs too. This concept has translated into several efforts by organizations and individuals to devise ways and means to achieve this noble objective of safeguarding the future generations. Waste wood continues to be generated in very large quantities, especially in developing countries whilst at the same time, wood-fuel accounts for a very significant fraction of the world's energy use. It is in this light the author decided to embark on this study at TU Freiberg and to undertake the project to ascertain the viability of pelletized solid fuel, which will also make economic sense.
